Providence, R.I. - Sophomore Adam Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) shot a final round three-under par 69 Sunday to lead the University of Connecticut golf team to the team title at the New England Division I Golf Championships at Triggs Memorial Golf Course.

The Huskies shot a team score of 293 Sunday, matching their Saturday total, and captured an eight-shot victory over runner-up Sacred Heart University. This is the second team title for UConn under head coach Dave Pezzino and is the first Husky title in the New England Division I spring event since 1997. UConn also captured the New England Fall Championship in October of 2009.

Vaccari stormed back from six shots off the first round pace to post his 69 and tie Maki Kobayashi of the University of Hartford for first place in regulation. Kobayashi won the medalist honors on the first playoff hole. Vaccari was the 2008 Connecticut Division IV State Champion at the Gilbert School.

Sophomore Jeb Buchanan fired a 72 Sunday and finished in fifth place at two-over for the tournament. Junior Matt Dubrowski, the first day leader after shooting a 69, shot a 78 Sunday and finished tied for sixth. Freshman Brian Hughes (Fairfield, Conn.) finished tied for 17th and sophomore Matthew Dziubina (Shelton, Conn.) tied for 19th to round out the Husky finishers.

The Huskies return to action on April 18-20 when they compete in the BIG EAST Championship at InnisBrook Resort in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
