Innisbrook, Fla. - Junior Matt Dubrowski shot a one-under par 70 Sunday to lead the University of Connecticut men's golf team in day one of action at the 2010 BIG EAST Conference Championship at the Innisbrook Resort Copperhead Course. Three teams did not complete round one due to a weather delay during the afternoon. They will finish play Monday morning.
St. John's University holds the team lead after shooting a team score of five-over 289. Georgetown University (+6 ) and Seton Hall University (+7) stand in second and third place, but still have to finish first round play. The University of Louisville completed its round and stands in fourth place at nine-over 293, with UConn also completed play and is in fifth place at 12-over 296.
Michael Furci of DePaul University shot a two-under 69 Sunday to hold the individual clubhouse lead by one stroke over Dubrowski. Troy Spencer of Seton Hall is at two-under through 12 holes of play to hold a tie for the lead with Furci.
UConn sophomore Matthew Dziubina (Shelton, Conn.) shot a 74 on the day and stands in a tie for 15th place. Sophomore Adam Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) shot a 76, as did freshman Brian Hughes (Fairfield, Conn.). Sophomore Jeb Buchanan fired a 77 to round out the Husky competitors on the day.
The tournament resumes with round two Monday morning, with the third and final round to be completed Tuesday.
