Husky Golfers Compete at BIG EAST Championship

DADE CITY, Fla. - The University of Connecticut men's golf team stands in 12th place after day one of play Sunday of the 2009 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.

The University of Louisville leads the team competition after the first day of the three-day tourney, shooting a team total of six-under par 282. Seton Hall University is in second place, three shots back, while Marquette University and St. John's University stand tied for third place and ten shots out of the lead. UConn shot a first day score of 324 Sunday and is in 12th place in the 12-team field.

Dave Sampson and John Zur of Seton Hall tied for the best individual rounds of the day, shooting a three-under 69. Sophomore Matt Dubrowski was the top UConn finisher, shooting a 77, and stands in a tie for 37th place.

The BIG EAST Championship continues with 18 holes of action each on Monday and Tuesday.
