Innisbrook, Fla. - University of Connecticut sophomores Adam Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) and Matthew Dziubina (Shelton, Conn.) each shot a score of two-under 69 Monday to lead the Huskies to a seventh place finish in the 2010 BIG EAST Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Copperhead Course of Innisbrook Resort.
Georgetown University captured the team championship, holding off the University of Notre Dame by one shot. The top seven teams were separated by a total of 11 shots over the course of 54 holes, with the University of Louisville, Seton Hall University, St. John's University, Villanova University and UConn rounding out the top seven.
Evan Beirne of St. John's, Vincenzo Salina of Georgetown, Max Scodro of Notre Dame and Tom Usher of Notre Dame all tied for first place at two-over 215.
Vaccari finished in a tie for fifth place at three-over 216, shooting 76, 71, and 69 for the three days. He finished one shot out of the four-man playoff for individual medalist honors. Dziubina finished in a tie for 15th place at six-over 219, firing scores of 74, 76 and 69 in the tourney.
Rounding out the UConn competitors for the tournament were: junior Matt Dubrowski, tied for 30th place at 70-75-79--224; freshman Brian Hughes (Fairfield, Conn.), tied for 37th place at 76-75-76--227; and sophomore Jeb Buchanan, tied for 52nd at 77-77-77--231.
