Golf Completes Play at BIG EAST Championship

DADE CITY, Fla. - The University of Connecticut men’s golf team finished in 12th place after the final day of competition Tuesday of the 2009 BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club.

Sophomore Matt Dubrowski was the top Husky finisher of the three-day tourney, shooting a total of six-over 222 and in a tie for 24th place. Freshman Brian Hwang fired the best Husky score of the tournament with a two-under 70 Tuesday and finished in a tie for 39th at 228.

The University of Louisville captured the team title with a team score of 17-under par 847. The Cardinals captured the championship by five strokes of defending champion Marquette.

Adam Hadwin of Louisville took the individual medalist honors by three strokes over defending champion Mike Van Sickle of Marquette and Doug Fortner of Notre Dame. Hadwin shot a five-under 67 Tuesday and finished at nine-under 207 for the championship.

The BIG EAST Championship concludes the spring season for the UConn golf team.
