South Kent, Conn. - Senior Jeb Buchanan captured the individual title in a playoff to lead the University of Connecticut golf team to victory Tuesday in the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Bulls Bridge G.C.
The Huskies captured the team title by a convincing eight strokes over Loyola-Md., with St. John's, Hartford and Sacramento State rounding out the top five. UConn shot an impressive team total of four-over 868 for the three rounds, including a two-under team score for the final two rounds, completed Tuesday.
Buchanan shot a final round 69 to earn a place in a four-man playoff with Jay Mulieri of Loyola, Branden Chicorka of URI and Josh Salah of Sacred Heart. The playoff lasted four holes, with Buchanan earning the victory on the fourth hole of extra play. The win is the second career victory for the Husky senior.
UConn junior Brian Hughes finished in a tie for fifth place, one shot out of the playoff, while senior Matt Dziubina finished tied for 13th and freshman Chris Wiatr tied for 19th to round out the Husky finishers.
UConn returns to action on October 10-11 when it hosts the third annual Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club in Ellington, Conn.
