Dziubina Helps Golf to Runner-Up Finish at Shelter Harbor

Westerly, R.I. - Senior Matt Dziubina finished in third place overall to lead the University of Connecticut golf team to a second place finish after the final round Sunday of the Classic at Shelter Harbor, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, at Shelter Harbor G.C.

Dartmouth College captured the team title with a two-round score of 26-over par and finished six shots ahead of the Huskies (+32) to earn the win. Columbia University (+35) finished third, Princeton University fourth (+38) and Fordham University and Central Connecticut State (+43) rounded out the top five teams in the 15-team field.

Bernie D'Amato of Princeton captured individual medalist honors by defeating Peter Williamson of Dartmouth in a playoff. The players had tied at one-over par 143 to force the playoff, with Dziubina finishing only one shot out of the playoff at two-over par 144.

UConn senior Jeb Buchanan (tied for 7th) and freshman Chris Wiatr (tied for 12th) joined Dziubina among the tournament's top finishers.

The Huskies will complete play in the 2011 Fall season when they return to action on October 30 and November 1 at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate at Turtle Point G.C.
