Hughes Tied for Lead after Round One

Brewster, Mass. (October 18, 2010)- Sophomore Brian Hughes is tied for the individual lead after one round of play Monday, helping the University of Connecticut golf team to a tie for second place in the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at the Captains Course.

Rhode Island leads the team competition by three strokes over UConn and Central Connecticut. Holy Cross stands five shots back.

Hughes is tied with John Kelly of URI after shooting a one-under par 71 Monday. The duo hold a one shot advantage over Kevin Josephson of CCSU and Colin Andrade of Holy Cross. UConn junior Adam Vaccari is tied for tenth after shooting a 75, while UConn junior Jeb Buchanan is tied for 30th after posting a 77.

The tournament concludes with 18 holes Tuesday.
