Storrs, Conn. - The University of Connecticut men's golf team, under the direction of third-year head coach Dave Pezzino, will play another challenging spring schedule featuring six tournaments in five different states along the east coast. The Huskies come off a standout fall campaign that was highlighted by the team title at the New England Championship.
"I have tried to challenge our team with the schedule my first two years and I think it really paid off for us this fall", said coach Pezzino. "By playing tough competition and great layouts, our squad is learning how to compete and, more importantly, learning how to win. This spring will be a continuation of that and will have us ready to be a factor at New England's and at the BIG EAST."
The Huskies will open play in February with the Nutmeg Match (Alumni Match) on February 13 at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. UConn will then travel to Hilton Head, S.C. for the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, hosted by Francis Marion University at Wexford Plantation Golf Club on February 22-23.
For spring break, the Huskies return to Florida for a week of training and competition, highlighted by their entry in the Mission Inn Spring Fling, hosted by St. John's. The tournament will be held March 12-14 at the El Campeon course at the Mission Inn Resort in Howey in the Hills, Fla.
The squad closes out the month of March with competition in the C & F Bank Intercollegiate, hosted by the College of William & Mary, on March 22-23. The tourney will be held at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
The month of April features three tournaments, beginning April 2-3 at the ECU/UNCW River Landing Intercollegiate at the River Landing Country Club in Wallace, N.C. The Huskies then return home to compete in the New England Division I Championship at Triggs Memorial Golf Course in Providence on April 9-10. The month concludes with the BIG EAST Conference Championship on April 18-20 at the InnisBrook Resort in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
