BLUFFTON, S.C. - UConn sophomore Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) recorded another top 10 finish as he shot a 2-over par 74 on Monday in the third round of the Colleton River Collegiate Tournament on the Colleton River Dye Course in Bluffton, S.C.
Zaback's 73-75-74-222, a 6-over par, placed him in a three-way tie for 10th place in the 54-player field. Zaback, who had nine birdies during the three-round tourney and played the Par 5s in 3-under, was the top finisher for the Huskies, who finished fifth in the nine-team tournament.
Junior Chris Wiatr (Woodbury, Conn.) was second for the Huskies, finishing in a tie for 20th place with a 77-72-76-225. Sophomore Corey Birch (Ridgefield, Conn.) finished in a tie for 30th place with 72-75-83-230, while freshman Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomore John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) were both part of a four-way tie for 41st place, with scores of 82-73-80-235 and 75-79-81-235, respectively.
Playing as an individual, UConn sophomore Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.) shot 77-81-76-234, to finish in a tie for 38th place. Michigan State's Charlie Netzel and Winthrop's Zach Seabolt tied for first place, each with a 1-under 215. Netzel was named tournament medalist in a scorecard playoff.
UConn's aggregate 297-295-311-903 finished fifth, just one stroke behind fourth-place Rutgers. The overall winner of the event was Winthrop, with a 295-285-294-874.
The Huskies' spring season resumes on March 15-16, when they will compete in the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular, hosted by George Mason University, The tournament will be held on the El-Campeon Course in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
