STORRS, Conn. – The 29th Annual Joe Giannelli UConn Golf Classic, the primary fundraiser for the UConn Golf Team, will be held this year on May 13, 2016, at the nationally-acclaimed Shelter Harbor Golf Club in Westerly, R.I.
The event is named for longtime former UConn golf coach Joe Giannelli, who guided the Huskies from 1981-2000, won numerous personal and team honors, and was a strong supporter of UConn golf until his death in 2002.
“The support we receive from this event has been incredibly important to our program,” nine-year UConn coach Dave Pezzino said. “This year, our team has been able to play a national tournament schedule on some of the greatest golf courses in the country against some of the strongest competition in Division I. That would not be possible without the Giannelli UConn Golf Classic.”
Shelter Harbor is well-known for its generous fairways and tour quality greens. The host professional there is 1989 UConn grad and former golf captain Dave Tiedemann.
