    FORT PIERCE, Fla. (March 8, 2007)-- Junior Brian Travalja (Oradell, N.J.) shot a two-under par 69 Thursday to lead the University of Connecticut golf team in day two of competition at the Treasure Coast Classic at the Indian Hills Golf Club.

    The Huskies shot a team total of 283 on Thursday and stand in ninth place in the 11-team field with a two-day total of 567. UConn is only three shots out of sixth place. St. John's continues to hold the team lead with a two-day score of 543.

    Senior Jason Parajeckas (Woburn, Mass.) stands in a tie for 11th place after shooting a 70 Thursday and is at 137 for the tourney. Travalja is in a tie for 21st after his 69 on Thursday.

    UConn freshman Derek Newman (Palatine, Ill.), competing as an individual in the tournament, shot a 66 Thursday and is tied for 13th place. His score does not count toward the UConn team total.

    The tournament, hosted by fellow BIG EAST member St. John's University, concludes Friday.
