BLUFFTON, S.C. – The UConn men’s golf team continued the spring portion of its 2015-16 schedule Monday and Tuesday, placing sixth at the fourth annual Colleton River Collegiate, hosted by Michigan State at Dye Course at Colleton River Plantation in Bluffton, S.C.
The Huskies were led by senior co-captain Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.), who finished in a tie for 15th, the 21st Top 20 finish of his career, with his nine-over 72-75-78=225. The total included Zaback’s 32nd round of par or better.
UConn junior Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) finished in a tie for 21st with an 11-over 79-75-73=227, while freshman Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) shot a 15-over 80-70-81=231 to tie for 34th place. Senior John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) tied for 41st place with a 16-over 74-77-81=232 and senior Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.) shot a 19-over 76-79-80=235 to tie for 50th place.
Two other Huskies played as individuals in the 89-player field. Senior Corey Birch (Ridgefield, Conn.) shot a consistent 15-over 77-77-77=231 to finish in a tie for 34th place and junior Tyler Cooke (Warwick, R.I.) finished in a tie for 79th with an 80-85-82=247.
The Huskies’ aggregate 301-297-312=910 finished sixth in the 12-team tournament.
UConn will be off until March 25-27, when it travels to Lake Worth, Fla., to compete in the FAU Slomin Autism Championship at The Fountains Country Club.
