HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The UConn men's golf team captured a ninth-place finish at the Mission Inn Spring Spectacular last weekend, played on the El-Campeon Course at Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.

The Huskies were led by junior Chris Wiatr (Woodbury, Conn.), who finished in a tie for 23rd place after shooting  83-74-74-231 in his three rounds on the 6,884-yard, par-72 course.

The rest of the UConn team scoring included sophomore John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.), who tied for 32nd place with 80-81-73-234, freshman Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.), who tied for 49th with 78-75-85-238, sophomore Corey Birch (Ridgefield, Conn.), who tied for 69th place with 80-77-87-244, and sophomore Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.), who finished 73rd with 81-78-87-246.

The Huskies also had three players who competed as individuals, including sophomore Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.), who notched a tie for 20th place with 77-76-76-229. UConn junior Dan Myers (Ridgefield, Conn.) tied for 71st with 79-80-86-245, while senior Mike Masso (Suffield, Conn.) was 95th with 88-88-92-268.

As a team, UConn's aggregate 319-304-319-942 finished ninth in the 17-team, 98-player field. Virginia Tech won the event with 287-289-299-875, while Virginia Tech's Trevor Cone was the individual medalist with a 5-under 211.

The Huskies' season will continue on March 28-30, when they travel to the Fountain Golf Course in Boca Raton, Fla., to compete in the Spring Break Championship.
