WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. --- Senior co-captain Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) fired a 1-under par 71 on Sunday in the final round of the FAU Slomin Austism Championship to lead the UConn golf team to a third-place finish in the 13-team event held at The Squire Course at PGA National.
Dietrich's 4-over total of 76-73-71=220 tied with sophomore teammate Jimmy Hervol's (Hopkinton, Mass.) 73-73-74=220, as they finished as part of a tie for eighth in the 74-player field. It was the fourth Top 10 finish of the year for each.
UConn's aggregate 298-297-288=883 finished behind tourney champion UCF (867) and second-place Jacksonville State (874). It marked UConn's fourth consecutive Top 5 Finish and its sixth Top Five in eight events this season.
Also for UConn, sophomore Nabeel Khan (Westerville, Ohio) shot 71 on Sunday to complete a 5-over 73-77-71=221 and earn a tie for 13th, his third Top 20 finish this season. He tied for the tournament lead in playing the Par 5 holes at 10-under par. Senior Tyler Cooke (Warwick, R.I.) tied for 24th place with a 76-74-75=225, and sophomore Nick Harrington (Chaplin, Conn.) finished in a tie for 40th place with a 75-78-76=229.
Playing as an individual, UConn freshman Tim Umphrey (Northborough, Mass.) recorded the second Top 20 finish of his career with a 74-73-74=221 to tie for 13th place.
UConn continues the spring portion of its schedule on April 2-3 as it competes in the Lafayette Collegiate Invitational at Silver Creek Country Club in Hellertown, Pa.
