HELLERTOWN, Pa. --- The UConn men’s golf team placed four players among the top 10 Sunday to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the Lafayette Collegiate Invitational, held at the Silver Creek Country Club. The final round is scheduled for Monday.
The Huskies’ aggregate 7-over 295 was one shot ahead of second-place Fordham and three shots in front of Bryant and Hofstra, who were tied for third place in the 19-team field.
UConn was led by senior co-captain Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.), who sits in a tie for seventh place after shooting a 1-over par 73. Three Huskies – sophomore Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.), senior Tyler Cooke (Warwick, R.I.) and freshman Tim Umphrey (Northborough, Mass.) -- were part of a tie for 10th after each shot a 2-over 74. Sophomore Nabeel Khan (Westerville, Ohio) was in a tie for 27th after shooting a 4-over 76.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Nick Harrington (Chaplin, Conn.) shot an 84 and was in a tie for 97th in the 108-player field.
