Adam Vaccari Earns Weekly Golf Honor

April 13, 2010

Providence, R.I. - Sophomore Adam Vaccari (Winsted, Conn.) has been named the BIG EAST Conference Men's Golfer of the Week, it was announced Tuesday by the league.

Vaccari shot a final round three-under par 69 Sunday before losing in a playoff in leading the Huskies to the team title at the New England Division I Golf Championships at Triggs Memorial Golf Course in Providence. He finished at even par for the two-day tourney at 144, shooting a 75 in the first round Saturday.

Vaccari stormed back from six shots off the first round pace to post his 69 and tie Maki Kobayashi of the University of Hartford for first place in regulation. Kobayashi won the medalist honors on the first playoff hole.

Vaccari was the 2008 Connecticut Division IV State Champion at the Gilbert School and is the first ever Husky to earn BIG EAST Golfer of the Week honors, a weekly award instituted last year.

The Huskies return to action on April 18-20 when they compete in the BIG EAST Championship at InnisBrook Resort in Tarpon Springs, Fla.
