STORRS, Conn. --- The 2016 Connecticut Junior PGA champion will play his college golf at UConn.
Finn Boynton of Milford, who won the state title in competition last June at The Course at Yale with a sizzling 3-under 67 in the final round, has committed to the UConn men’s golf program and will enroll in the university this fall.
“We’re very excited to welcome Finn into the UConn golf family,” said UConn head coach Dave Pezzino. “He brings a loaded junior golf resume, with success in several national tournaments.”
Boynton, 17, is currently a senior at Notre Dame High School in West Haven, where he was teammates two years ago with current UConn redshirt freshman Zach Iannone. Boynton, the captain of the Notre Dame golf team, is a two-time All-State and two-time All-Conference pick, following his sophomore and junior seasons, a three-time All-Conference Academic Team selection, and a two-time New Haven Register All-Area Team pick.
Currently in his fourth season at Notre Dame under coach Steve Kirck, Boynton helped ND capture the 2014 state championship and the 2015 SCC Conference title.
Besides his Junior PGA title, Boynton has an impressive list of non-scholastic golf success. He won the 2015 Borck Memorial Junior championship, had a top 25 finish in the 2016 Russell C. Palmer Cup and a top 20 finish in the 2016 New England Junior Amateur. Boynton tied for 16th place in the 2016 World Series of Junior Golf and was among the top 15 in the 2015 AJGA Coca-Cola Championship at Sugarloaf.
“Finn has a tremendous work ethic,” Pezzino said, “and that matches the attitude that we have instilled in our program.”
Boynton plays out of the Great River Golf Club in Milford. He joins Rodrigo Sanchez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and Jack Boulger (Walpole, Mass.) in UConn’s incoming recruiting class.
