    Men's Golf Finishes Ninth At Rain-Shortened URI Newport Invitational

    MIDDLETOWN, RI (April 26) – The final round of the URI Newport Invitational on Saturday was cancelled due to rain. As a result, the University of Connecticut men’s golf team will finish ninth out of 13 schools competing at the event, after shooting a 317 on Friday at the par-72 Newport National Golf Club in Middletown, RI. Binghamton took home the title after shooting a 299 in the opening round, 10 strokes ahead of second place Rhode Island. The tournament concludes UConn’s 2003 season.

    Justin Ciombor paced the Husky golfers on Friday by shooting a 77 to tie for 13th overall. Rounding out the UConn participants, Anthony Hrenko shot a 78 to tie for 18th, Daniel Keefe shot an 80 to tie for 28th, Nate Thomsen shot an 82 to tie for 42nd and Mike Murphy was fifth for UConn and tied for 56th overall with his 84.
