LECANTO, Fla. --- UConn junior John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) fired a strong 1-over 73 Monday in the final round of The American Championship to finish as the leading player for the Husky golf team at the conference tournament at the Black Diamond Ranch.
It was the second 73 in three rounds for Flaherty who finished 73-75-73-221, good enough for a tie for 25th place among the 50-player field.
Also for the Huskies, junior Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) tied for 30th place with a 75-74-74-223, junior Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.) tied for 34th place with a 75-75-75-225, sophomore Erich Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) tied for 41st place with an 80-75-74-229, and senior Chris Wiatr finished in 44th place with a 75-77-78-230.
The individual medalist with South Florida's Ryan Fricker, who shot an 11-under 67-67-71-205.
In the team competition, UConn's aggregate 298-299-296-893 finished in ninth place among the 10 league teams. South Florida easily won the tournament with a 282-275-280-837.
The conference tourney is the final event on the golf team's schedule for 2014-15, a season in which the Huskies posted five Top 5 finishes, including the championship of the 2014 Connecticut Cup in October.
