STORRS, Conn. --- UConn has received a signed financial aid agreement from Drake Hull, who will join the UConn men’s golf program in the fall of 2017, UConn head golf coach Dave Pezzino has announced.
Hull, a native of Rutland, Vt., comes to UConn as a transfer after two years at the University of Kansas. Hull, who redshirted during the 2016-17 season, will be eligible immediately upon his enrollment at UConn and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
As a freshman at Kansas in 2015-16, Hull competed in two events as an individual, finishing among the top 40 in both. He shot a season-low 11 over par 221 in the Ram Masters Invitational in the first event of the season, and also participated in the Badger Invitational. While at Kansas, he was named to the Fall Athletic Director’s and Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Rolls, majoring in business and sport management.
Hull was a four-year golf letterwinner at Rutland (Vt.) High School, who helped lead the team to state titles in both 2012 and 2014. He won the individual Division I championship in both 2013 and 2014, which included a record 6-under 66 in the 2014 state tourney. He also qualified for the 2014 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship and was a 2013-14 First Team All-Future Collegians World Tour.
Hull will join a UConn program that is coming off one of the most successful seasons in school history, recording three tournament victories and eight top five finishes in 11 events. Senior co-captains Eric Dietrich and Tyler Cooke have graduated from that team, but the Huskies will return rising senior Sasha Wortelboer, rising juniors Jimmy Hervol, Nabeel Khan, Nick Harrington and Blake Kelley, rising redshirt sophomore Zach Iannone, and rising sophomores Chandler Morris and Tim Umphrey.
Hull will be part of an incoming class at UConn that also includes freshmen Rodrigo Sanchez, Jack Boulger, and Finn Boynton.
