ALPHARETTA, Ga. (May 28, 2013) --- University of Connecticut freshman golfer Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) has been named to the Division I PING All-Northeast Region Team, announced Tuesday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Zaback, UConn’s top performer during the 2012-13 season, was one of 25 college golfers honored with selection to the All-Northeast Region team. A total of 155 players from six regions across the country earned All-Region honors.

Zaback, who was named to the All-BIG EAST Team earlier this month, won two tournaments in his first year as a college player. He was the individual medalist at the Connecticut Cup tourney at Ellington Ridge Country Club in the fall, posting a 5-under par 211 to top the field of 84 players. In the spring, Zaback won medalist honors at the New England D-1 Championships at Newport National Country Club, shooting a 5-under par 139, to outperform the field of 50. He led the Huskies to that tournament title.

Zaback had an average score of 74.85 in 34 rounds and 12 tournaments. He had four sub-70 rounds and shot par or better in seven rounds. He was named the BIG EAST Men’s Golf Player of the Month for October and the BIG EAST Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week on April 18.

It is the fourth consecutive season that UConn has had at least one player named to the PING team by the GCAA.

Zaback was one of six BIG EAST Conference players named to the All-Northeast Region Team, which includes the St. John’s trio of Dylan Crowley, Ryan McCormick and Pat Wilson, as well as Villanova teammates Michael Kania and Steve Skurla.
