EUGENE, Ore. --- UConn senior Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) and junior Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) have capped off an outstanding golf season with their selections to the Division I PING All-Northeast Region Team, announced Saturday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
A total of 156 golfers in the country, spread across six regions, earned all-region honors for 2015-16.
It marked the third time in his college career that Zaback has earned the honor. He was also selected to the PING All-Region Team in 2013 and 2015. This season, Zaback played in all 11 events on UConn’s schedule, with an average score of 72.5 per round. He had five Top 10 and seven Top 20 finishes and shot par or better in 14 rounds, including seven sub-70 rounds.
It was the first PING All-Region Team selection for Dietrich, who was also named to the 2016 American Athletic Conference All-League Team. The junior led the Huskies with a 71.9 per round scoring average and was the only UConn player to win a tournament, capturing medalist honors in the Til Duty Is Done Collegiate Invitational. Dietrich notched five Top 10 and seven Top 20 finishes, shot par or better in 17 rounds and had seven sub-70 rounds.
Zaback and Dietrich helped the Huskies record seven Top Five finishes in 11 events in 2015-16.
The two UConn players were part of the 25-member All-Northeast Region Team. They were also part of the nine players selected from the American. The other AAC players included Temple’s Brandon Matthews, Houston’s Michael Perras, Thomas Perrot and Lars van Meijel from Memphis, and Claudio Correa, Chase Koepka, and Aksel Olsen of USF.
