    STORRS, Conn. - The University of Connecticut golf program is enjoying the summer of 2009 and has had several individuals with Husky golf ties produce some notable results.

    Former Husky Bob Kearney qualified for the United States Senior Open, beginning Thursday, July 30 at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind. He qualified for the event by shooting a 69, earning medalist honors at a qualifier on June 29 at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas. He currently resides in Houston. You can follow Kearney in action, teeing off at 1:10 p.m. on Thursday and 7:55 a.m. Friday. Kearney golfed for the Huskies in the mid-to-late 1970's, finishing up as a member of the 1977-78 Husky squad.

    Senior-to-be Kyle O'Connor (Mansfield, Conn.) earned a hard fought victory in the Norwich Invitational over former teammate and Husky Bret Siekierski (North Grosvenordale, Conn.). Siekierski was the defending champion in the event.

    Jeb Buchanan (Loudonville, N.Y.), entering his sophomore season at UConn this fall, finished in a tie for 8th place at the prestigious New York Stage Golf Association Men's Amateur Championship. He shot the low round of the entire tournament with a second round 65 and finished at plus-two for the championship.
