JOHNS CREEK, Ga. - UConn rising junior Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) completed two days of competition Tuesday at the U.S. Amateur Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club.

Zaback, who has had an outstanding summer of competition, shot a 4-over 76 Tuesday on the Atlanta Athletic Club's Riverside Course, which combined with his 2-over 73 Monday on the Highlands Course for a 6-over149. He was just four strokes away from qualifying for a playoff, which now includes 17 players for four places that will fill out the field to the final 64. The tournament will then continue with match play until the champion is crowned.

Zaback, who led UConn in per round scoring last year (74.14) and had a win in The Connecticut Cup among six top 10 finishes, was named as an All-New England selection earlier this week.

This summer, he won the Connecticut Amateur Championship and finished in an 11th-place tie at the Connecticut Open, in addition to qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Championship.
