Farmingdale, N.Y. - Sophomore Jeb Buchanan shot an opening round 67 to help the University of Connecticut golf team to an eighth place standing in the 18-team field after the first two rounds of play Friday at The McLaughlin at Bethpage Red Golf Course, hosted by St. John’s University.
UNC Wilmington holds the team lead by one shot over Coastal Carolina and Towson University after the first 36 holes. Evan Beirne of St. John’s and Stefan Brewer of UNCW share the individual lead at five-under, with three other players within two shots of the lead.
Buchanan shot a first round 67 and shared the top spot on the leaderboard. He followed that up with a 75 in the second 18 and stands at two-over and in a tie for 14th place. UConn junior Matt Dubrowski is also at two-over after shooting 72-70 Friday. Freshman Matt Dziubina and sophomore Matt Carroll are tied for 52nd at seven-over and senior Kyle O’Connor rounds out the Husky five at eight-over and tied for 58th place. Junior Chris DeLucia is competing as an individual and is at five-over and tied for 34th place.
The McLaughlin concludes Saturday with 18 holes.
