Newport, R.I. - University of Connecticut sophomore Jeb Buchanan shot a pair of 69's Monday to hold the individual lead after 36 holes of action at the Adams Cup of Newport, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, at Newport National Golf Club.
Buchanan's six-under total of 138 for the first two rounds gives him a two shot advantage over Ryan Zabroske of Georgia Southern. Matt Schovee of SMU (two-under) and Logan Blondell of Georgia Southern (one-under) are the only other golfers in the 90-player field under par.
The University of New Mexico holds the team lead by one shot over Georgia Southern. The Huskies are in sixth place in the 17-team field.
UConn junior Matt Dubrowski is tied for 25th place at five-over after shooting 73-76--149. Junior Chris DeLucia (tied for 56th) and freshman Matt Dziubina (tied for 69th place) were the other Husky competitors on the day. Sophomore Matt Carroll withdrew after the first round of play.
