Newport, R.I. - University of Connecticut sophomore golfer Jeb Buchanan fired his third straight score of 69 Tuesday and captured individual medalist honors at the Adams Cup of Newport, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, at Newport National Golf Club.
Southern Methodist (876) captured the team title by six shots over Georgia Southern (882). UConn finished in sixth place at 894 despite competing with only four players for the final two rounds.
Buchanan fired his third successive score of 69 for a three-round total of nine-under 207, good for a two-shot victory over Ryan Zabroske of Georgia Southern. Kelly Kraft finished third, eight shots back of Buchanan.
It is the first collegiate tournament victory for Buchanan and the first for a Husky under head coach Dave Pezzino. Buchanan is the first Husky individual medalist since Jason Parajeckas won the Yale Spring Open in April of 2007.
Junior Matt Dubrowski was the second Husky finisher in the tourney, shooting a seven-over total of 223 to finish in a tie for 21st place. Junior Chris DeLucia (232, tied for 50th) and freshman Matt Dziubina (234, tied for 59th) rounded out the Husky foursome.
