Huskies Finish Tied for 14th at Adams Cup of Newport

NEWPORT, R.I. (September 22, 2008)-- The University of Connecticut men's golf team finished in a tie for 14th place overall after the final round of competition Tuesday at the 15th Annual Adams Cup of Newport/Cleveland Golf Classic at Newport National Golf Club.

The Huskies put together a team score of 937 for the three rounds, shooting 315 on Tuesday. Texas A&M captured the team championship with a score of 856, defeating Minnesota by 13 strokes. Bronson Burgoon of Texas A&M was the individual medalist, shooting a 12-under total of 204 for the three rounds. He defeated teammate Andrea Pavan by seven shots. Francis Marion University, Southern Mississippi and Furman rounded out the top five team finishers.

Sophomore Chris DeLucia (Norwich, Conn.) was the top Husky performer, shooting rounds of 74, 78 and 80 for a 232 total that put him in a tie for 47th place overall. Sophomore Matt Dubrowski (Bergenfield, N.J.) shot 79, 76 and 78 and his 233 put him in a tie for 53rd place.

The tourney was hosted by the University of Rhode Island and the field included 16 teams from 13 different conferences.

The Huskies return to action on September 28-30 when they compete in the Hartford Hawks Invitational at Ballymeade C.C., Falmouth, Mass.).
