VALENTINE, Neb. - UConn sophomore Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) shot his second consecutive under-par round Tuesday to vault into a Top 10 finish at The Jackrabbit Fall Invitational, held at The Prairie Club Dunes Course.
The tourney, sponsored by South Dakota State University, had its first round postponed Sunday by heavy wind. Two rounds were scheduled for Monday, but when darkness stopped play before the second round was finished, players had to complete the second round Tuesday as well as play the third round.
Hervol's one-under 77-68-70=215 made him part of a four-way tie for 10th place, the third Top 10 finish of Hervol's career, as well as his 12th and 13th rounds of par or better.
Also competing for the Huskies was senior Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.), who shot 79-70-72=221 to finish in a tie for 31st place in the 64-player field.
UConn freshman Chandler Morris (Hobe Sound, Fla.) shot 79-70-74=223 to tie for 41st place, sophomore Nabeel Khan (Westerville, Ohio) shot 77-79-72=228 to finish in 52nd place, and junior Sasha Wortelboer (Geneva, Switzerland) finished 61st with a 79-77-79=235. Playing as an individual, UConn senior Tyler Cooke (Warwick, R.I.) finished 59th with a 76-75-81=232.
As a team, UConn's aggregate 312-285-288=885, put the Huskies in 9th place in the 12-team field. Clemson won the event and Clemson's Doc Redman (13-under) was the individual medalist.
UConn's season continues on Oct. 1-2, as the Huskies compete for the Macdonald Cup at the Yale Golf Course in New Haven.
