VALENTINE, Neb. --- Junior Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) continues to set the pace for the UConn men's golf team.
After a career-best second-place finish to lead the Huskies to the team victory in last week's season-opening Hartford Hawks Invitational, Dietrich was again UConn's top individual finisher with a 12th place in The Jackrabbit Fall Invitational, which ended Monday at The Prairie Club. The event was hosted by South Dakota State University.
Dietrich shot an even-par 77-69-70=216, which included his third sub-70 round of the season and his fourth and fifth rounds of par or better, to help the Huskies finish in a tie for eighth place in the 14-team tournament. Dietrich also carded a tourney-leading two eagles, had 13 birdies, and played the Par 5 holes in 7-under.
As a team, UConn improved with each round and its aggregate 306-294-287=887, tied the University of Missouri for eighth. South Florida, UConn's American Athletic Conference colleague, shot 295-275-276=846 to win the event.
Also for the Huskies, senior co-captain John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) shot 5-over 72-75-74=221 to tie for 24th place, and senior co-captain Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) earned a tie for 29th place with a 7-over 79-76-68=223, which included the 11th sub-70 round of his college career.
UConn's season will continue on Oct. 12-13, when the Huskies host the seventh annual Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club.
