NORTH FALMOUTH, Mass (September 29, 2008)-- Sophomore Chris DeLucia (Norwich, Conn.) shot a 74 Monday and stands in a tie for 24th place overall to lead the University of Connecticut golf team to a 12th place standing after day one of competition at the Hawks Invitational, hosted by the University of Hartford, at Ballymeade Country Club.
The Huskies shot a team total of 305 on the day for its 12th place standing. Baylor leads the team competition with a total of 284 and holds an eight shot lead over Texas Christian and Rhode Island. Matt Hill of North Carolina State is the individual leader after shooting a 66 and holds a three-shot advantage entering the final round Tuesday.
DeLucia was joined in the Husky lineup by sophomore Matt Dubrowski (Bergenfield, N.J.) and junior Kyle O'Connor (South Windsor, Conn.) who each shot a 76 and stand tied for 46th place. Senior L.J. Tosches (Grafton, Mass.) shot a 79 to round out the Husky top four in a tie for 71st place.
UConn is one of 23 schools in the tournament, hosted by the University of Hartford. The participating schools are as follows: Baylor, Binghamton, Bryant, Cal-Poly, Connecticut, Drexel, Georgia State, Hartford, Loyola, Mercer, NC State, Northern Colorado, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Sacramento State, Seton Hall, USC Upstate, Southern Methodist, Texas Christian, Texas-Pan American, Utah Valley, Weber State and William & Mary.
The tournament concludes Tuesday with an 18-hole shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
