NORTH FALMOUTH, Mass (September 30, 2008)-- Sophomore Chris DeLucia (Norwich, Conn.) shot a 73 Tuesday and finished in a tie for 20th place overall to lead the University of Connecticut golf team in competition at the Hawks Invitational, hosted by the University of Hartford, at Ballymeade Country Club.
The Huskies finished the team competition in 20th place, shooting a team score of 619 for the two days. Baylor captured the team championship with a score of 566, earning a ten-shot victory over North Carolina State. Matt Hill of NC State shot a 65 Tuesday and cruised to a nine-shot victory in the individual competition.
DeLucia shot his 73 Tuesday after carding a 74 Monday for his 147 total. Sophomore Matt Dubrowski (Bergenfield, N.J.) shot a 78 Tuesday and his 154 total placed him tied for 63rd overall.
UConn was one of 23 schools in the tournament, hosted by the University of Hartford. The participating schools are as follows: Baylor, Binghamton, Bryant, Cal-Poly, Connecticut, Drexel, Georgia State, Hartford, Loyola, Mercer, NC State, Northern Colorado, Rhode Island, Rutgers, Sacramento State, Seton Hall, USC Upstate, Southern Methodist, Texas Christian, Texas-Pan American, Utah Valley, Weber State and William & Mary.
UConn returns to action Friday-Sunday, October 3-5 at the Yale Invitational at Yale Golf Course in New Haven.
