PROVIDENCE, R.I. --- UConn junior golfer Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) has been recognized for his outstanding start to the 2015-16 season.
Dietrich, who led the Huskies to a season-opening tournament victory with the best performance of his college career and then followed it up with another Top 12 finish, was named the American Athletic Conference Golfer of the Month for September, the league announced Thursday.
Dietrich had a career-best finish of a tie for second place in a 108-player field and career-bests of an 8-under 208 and a single round of 67 as he sparked UConn to a 13-stroke victory at the Hartford Hawks Invitational in South Kent, Conn.
Dietrich followed that performance with a 12th-place finish at The Jackrabbit Fall Invitational in Valentine, Neb., with an even par 216 in a 73-player tournament.
Through two tourneys, Dietrich leads UConn with a 70.7 per round average and five of his six rounds have been par or better.
The American Athletic Conference will choose a Golfer of the Month through the fall schedule, then switch to selecting a Golfer of the Week during the spring schedule.
