Arkansas-Little Rock Wins Inaugural Connecticut Cup

Ellington ,Conn. - Linus Gillgren of Arkansas-Little Rock shot a three-under par 69 Tuesday to capture the individual title and lead the Trojans to the team championship of the inaugural Connecticut Cup, hosted by the University of Connecticut, at Ellington Ridge Country Club.

UALR shot a team total of four-over 868 for the three rounds to easily outdistance runner-up Bryant University by 22 strokes. Gillgren finished his three rounds at six-under 210 and beat teammate Dylan Raines by six shots. Jason Thresher of Bryant shot 68 Tuesday, the low round of the tournament, and finished third, eight shots back of the lead.

The University of Hartford followed UALR and Bryant in the top three, while the University of Connecticut, Sacred Heart University and American International College tied for fourth place.

Jeb Buchanan and Matt Dubrowski each finished in a tie for ninth place individually to lead the Husky finishers. Adam Vaccari and Brian Hwang competed for the UConn Blue team in the competition and tied for 15th individually, helping their squad to an eighth place finish.

UConn concludes its fall schedule when it returns to action October 19-20 at the 75th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship in Brewster, Mass.
