ELLINGTON, Conn. --- UConn senior Chris Wiatr (Woodbury, Conn.) fired a 3-under par 69 Tuesday to capture individual medalist honors at the 2014 Connecticut Cup, and lead the Huskies to the Connecticut Cup team championship for the second consecutive year.

The tournament was held at the Par 72 Ellington Ridge Country Club.

Wiatr's win was the first tournament victory of his college career, and it was his third consecutive Top 5 finish. His 4-under total of 70-73-69-212 edged Colgate's Ryan Allison (69-70-74-213) by one stroke in the 90-player field. Wiatr's 69 in Tuesday's final round was the sixth sub-70 round of his career and gave him eight Top 5 finishes, 14 top 25 finishes, and 19 rounds of par or better.

UConn's team victory was its first since last year's Connecticut Cup, but it was also the third straight Top 5 finish for the Huskies. UConn's aggregate 284-291-292-867 was six strokes better than runner-up Hartford (287-292-294-873) and 16 strokes better than third-place Colgate (298-288-297-883).

Besides Wiatr, UConn got Top 10 finishes from junior John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) and sophomore Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.). Flaherty shot 71-74-71-216 to finish in sixth place, while Dietrich shot 75-69-76-220 to tie for eighth place.

In addition, UConn senior Dane Rosa (Mansfield, Conn.) tied for 25th with a 72-75-79-226, while junior Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) tied for 34th with a 71-80-76-227.

The Huskies also had five players in the field as individuals. Senior Dan Myers (Ridgefield, Conn.) shot 77-72-71-220 to finish in a tie for eighth, the best finish of his career. Junior Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.) tied for 16th with a 75-72-75-222. Senior Mike Masso (Suffield, Conn.) finished in a tie for 46th place with a 77-75-77-229, while junior Corey Birch (Ridgefield, Conn.) tied for 51st place with 77-74-79-230, and freshman Sasha Wortleboer (Geneva, Switzerland) finished in a tie for 65th place with a 79-81-74-234.

UConn will wrap up the fall portion of its 2014-15 schedule on Oct. 27-28, when it competes in the Quail Valley Intercollegiate at Quali Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla.
