Huskies Stand 3rd After Day One at NEIGA Championship

Brewster, Mass. - Sophomore Matt Dziubina shot a 73 Monday to lead the University of Connecticut to a third place team standing after day one of the 75th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at the Captains Course.

Dartmouth College held the day one lead in the 39-team field with a team total of 291, followed by Central Connecticut (293), UConn (298), Rhode Island (299), Sacred Heart (304) and Salem State (304). Davis Mullaney of Dartmouth shot 67 Monday to hold the lead out of 194 individuals by two shots.

Dziubina's 73 was good for a tie for eighth place overall. Sophomore Adam Vaccari shot 74 to stand in a tie for 16th. Junior Matt Dubrowski (75), sophomore Jeb Buchanan (76) and sophomore Brian Hwang (78) rounded out the Husky competitors for the day.

The NEIGA Championship concludes Tuesday with 18 holes of action.
