Freshman Brian Hwang Tied for Second to Lead Golf at Columbia Invite

GALLOWAY, N.J. (October 24, 2008)-- University of Connecticut freshman Brian Hwang (Hauppauge, N.Y.) shot a one-over par 72 Friday to stand in a tie for second place overall after the first day of action at the Columbia Invitational at Galloway National Golf Club.

UConn is tied for fifth place in the team competition with the University of Florida at 305. Georgetown, Eastern Kentucky and St. John's are tied for first place at 301 with Pennsylvania in fourth at 303. Michael Blodgett of Penn is the individual leader after shooting a 71.

Hwang shot his best score as a Husky to lead the squad on the day. Fellow freshman Jeb Buchanan (Loudonville, N.Y.) shot a 76 Friday and is tied for 30th place overall.

The teams will compete in round two Saturday of the three-day 15-team tourney hosted by Columbia University. Saturday's round is a shotgun start beginning at 9:00 a.m.
