Golf in Tenth Place at Columbia Invitational

GALLOWAY, N.J. (October 25, 2008)-- University of Connecticut freshman Brian Hwang (Hauppauge, N.Y.) is in a tie for 18th place overall after the second day of action Saturday at the Columbia Invitational at Galloway National Golf Club.

UConn is tied for tenth place in the team competition with Western Illinois and Columbia at 633. Texas Christian is the team leader at 603, followed by Florida at 609. Michael Blodgett of Penn is the individual leader for the second straight day after shooting a 75 and holds a three-shot lead over three players.

Hwang shot his best score as a Husky to lead the squad on Friday, but followed his 72 with an 82 Saturday in blustery conditions. None of the five Huskies in action were able to break 80 on the round, but were not alone, as 50 of the 80 players in the competition shot 80 or higher Saturday.

The teams will compete in round three Sunday of the three-day 15-team tourney hosted by Columbia University. Sunday's round is a shotgun start beginning at 9:00 a.m.
