VERO BEACH, Fla. --- The UConn golf team wrapped up the fall portion of its 2015-16 season by competing in the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational, hosted by McNeese State, at the Quail Valley Golf Club in Vero Beach, Fla. The Huskies finished 12th in the 15-team field.
UConn junior Eric Dietrich (Cheshire, Conn.) led the Huskies' effort with a 4-over, 72-74-74=220 to tie for 30th place in the 75-player field. The total included Dietrich's team-leading eighth round of par or better this season.
Senior John Flaherty (Glastonbury, Conn.) finished in a tie for 37th place after he shot a 6-over, 70-78-74=222, which also included his fifth round of par or better this year and the 18th of his UConn career.
Also for UConn, senior Zach Zaback (Farmington, Conn.) fired a 7-over, 74-75-74=223, freshman Jimmy Hervol (Hopkinton, Mass.) had an 11-over, 77-75-75=227 to tie for 61st place, and senior Cameron MacKay (Brookfield, Conn.) finished in 71st place with an 82-78-73=233. The individual medalist of the tournament was Thomas Rosemueller of North Texas with a 12-under, 70-63-71=204.
As a team, UConn shot an aggregate 293-302-295=890. North Texas and Michigan State tied for first place, each with an aggregate 848, but North Texas won the team title by matching scorecards.
The Huskies will be idle until starting the spring portion of their schedule on Feb. 28-March 1, 2016, at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz., playing in the Loyola Golf Invitational, hosted by Loyola-Maryland.
