STORRS, Conn. - UConn senior Rob Nichols (Dallas, Texas) was named the Hockey East Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Nichols shares this week's award with Notre Dame goaltender Cal Petersen. It is his third Defensive Player of the Week nod this season.
Nichols earns the weekly honor after earning a pair of wins to lead the Huskies to the tournament title while grabbing MVP accolades at the Desert Hockey Classic in Prescott Valley, Arizona over the weekend. Nichols stopped 33 shots to lead UConn past No. 18 St. Cloud State in the opening game of the tournament, then stopped 15 to help give the Huskies the trophy in a 4-1 win over Brown.
