Men's Hockey To Play Host To Penn State Friday and Saturday

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men’s hockey team will welcome Penn State to Freitas Ice Forum on Friday and Saturday, January 4 and 5. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m. Games can be heard at with video at

The Huskies (5-8-2, 4-6-1 AHA) most recently hosted the 20th Annual UConn Hockey Classic. UConn finished as the runner-up for the third straight season and 11th time overall after falling to No. 18 Minnesota State, 3-1, in the championship game. UConn downed league rival AIC, 7-2, in the opening game. UConn junior Brant Harris and sophomore defenseman Jacob Poe were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Penn State sits at 8-9-0 overall in its first season as a Division I hockey program. In the inaugural season, the Nittany Lions face off against a mix of Division I, III and club hockey programs. Most recently, PSU fell to Robert Morris, 6-0, on December 28 at the opening game of the Three Rivers Classic before defeating Ohio State, 5-4, the following night.

PSU has played 10 games against AHA competition and sits at 4-6 in those contests with wins coming against AIC, RIT, Sacred Heart and Air Force.

Penn State will join the BIG TEN Conference in 2013-14 along with Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Wisconsin.
