Men's Hockey Team Falls to Union 4-1



    Schenectady, N.Y. (January 4, 2008) - Goalie Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa) returned from injury Friday and recorded a season high 38 saves, but it was not enough as the University of Connecticut men's hockey team fell to Union 4-1 in non-conference action Friday. The Huskies fall to 5-12-1 on the season, while the Dutchman improve to 5-8-3.

    After a scoreless and competitive first period, Union took advantage of two Connecticut penalties to score the first goal of the game 9:32 into the second period on the five-on-three power play. UConn was able to kill off the rest of the penalty and entered the second intermission down one.

    The Huskies tied the game at one only 3:39 into the third when Chris Spicer (Syracuse, N.Y.) scored his first career goal off a Matt Pedemonti (Enfield, Conn.)pass. Spicer was playing for the first time since November 23, after missing six weeks with an injury. Union was able to respond with another power play goal at the 12:58 mark that turned out to be the game winner.

    For the game the Dutchman out shot Connecticut 42-16. Charles Solberg (Barrington, Ill.) led the team with three shots on net.

    UConn returns to Atlantic Hockey Association play next weekend when they travel to Buffalo, N.Y. for a two game set with Canisius. Games are on Friday, January 11 and Saturday, January 12, both scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m. from the Amherst Pepsi Center.
