ROCHESTER, N.Y. (January 9, 2009) - Coming off of a 6-1 loss to Sacred Heart on Tuesday, the University of Connecticut men's hockey team will face off against RIT, for the final time during the regular season, this weekend with the first game taking place on Friday night at 7:05 p.m.
These two games against the Tigers will be the second and third of the week for the Huskies. UConn traveled to Milford, Conn. on Tuesday for their second and final meeting with Sacred Heart this season. Both of the games took place on Sacred Heart’s home ice and the Pioneers took both of the decisions from UConn.
This time, Sacred Heart took a 1-0 lead in the first, but UConn was able to come back and tie the game up at 1-1 when freshman Brad Cooper scored his first goal of the season. That would be all of the offense for the Huskies and Sacred Heart went on to score five more goals, including three of the power play type for the 6-1 victory.
Since their first meeting, RIT has gone 5-2 compiling an overall 10-9-1 record with a 9-4-1 record in conference play. They are currently riding a five-game win streak including an overtime win over No. 10 Air Force and weekend sweeps of Mercyhurst and Bentley.
In their previous meeting this year, the two team split the weekend series as UConn took the first game of the series with a 2-1 score thanks to goals by Andrew Olson (Alexandria, Minn.) and Chris Ochoa (Santa Monica, Calif.). The second game of the weekend had more action as the lead went back and forth for the majority of the game until RIT scored twice in the third period to secure the lead for good and take the win. In the tough 5-4 loss, Ochoa racked up two more goals for the Huskies.
