STORRS, Conn. – The UConn Huskies will be the No. 5 seed in the 2018 Hockey East playoffs, earning a bye into the quarterfinals and a three-game series at No. 4 seeded Boston University on March 9-11.
UConn finished the regular season with an 11-12-1 Hockey East record and 23 points, finishing tied for fifth in the final standings with Maine. The Huskies win the tiebreaker over the Black Bears thanks to more conference wins. The Huskies’ 11 wins, 23 points and fifth place finish are all program best marks for a team in its fourth season of play in the league.
The Huskies will head to BU for a best-of-three series that will open on Friday, March 9 at Agganis Arena. Game two will be on Saturday, March 10 and game three, if necessary, on Sunday, March 11. Times have not been announced. The winner will move on to TD Garden for Hockey East Championship weekend.
UConn and BU split their three-game season series this year, 1-1-1. The two teams met in a home-and-home series back on October 20 and 21. The Huskies and Terriers skated to a 1-1 tie in game one at Agganis and BU took game two at XL Center, 6-3. The two teams met for a third time just two weeks ago with the Huskies twice erasing a two-goal deficit to force overtime before junior Maxim Letunov (Moscow, Russia) scored the game-winner to give UConn a seven-game winning streak with a 5-4 win.
This will be the first-ever meeting in the post season between the two schools. Since joining Hockey East in 2014-15, the Terriers lead the series between the two schools 4-3-2.
