STORRS, Conn. (February 13, 2009) - After playing a two-game weekend series at Air Force on February 6 and 7, the University of Connecticut men's hockey team will return to the Mark E. Freitas Ice Forum for a weekend series with Mercyhurst. The Huskies fell in both of their games last weekend and hope to rebound at home.
Februrary 13 is Greek Night at Freitas. All members of a fraternity or sorority who wear their letters to the game will receive free admission. On Saturday, all UConn students are free! Also happening this weekend is a time to Skate with the Huskies. On Sunday, February 15, the men's hockey team will open their door to you at 1 p.m. where you can meet the team, get autographs and a tour of the locker room, and skate with your favorite players!
UConn and Mercyhurst have met already this season in Erie, Pa. where the Lakers took both of the games from UConn in 7-2 and 6-0 fashions. Mercyhurst now leads the series between the two teams 23-7-2 in the 17 seasons UConn has played the Lakers.
MOVING ON UP: Senior captain Sean Erickson (Eden Prairie, Minn.) continues to climb the charts in the Husky record books. With his assist on sophomore Matt Pedemonti's (Enfield, Conn.) goal, Erickson moved up a spot on the UConn Career Assists (DI) list to fourth place with 52. He currently is in a tie with Kurt Kamieski and if he records an assist this weekend will have full control of fourth place. His next benchmark is 59 career assists which will put him in third place, currently held by former teammate Chris Uber.
SAVE MACHINE: Junior goaltender Beau Erickson (Hinton, Iowa), who already took over the number one spot for Career Saves (DI) is now looking to move up the list among all Husky netminders for career saves. Erickson currently has 2,263 career saves after the 61 that he made last weekend at Air Force. If he is able to swat away five this weekend, he will move his way into third place taking over for Damen Dawson who played for UConn from 1989-1992.
After recording his 14th assist of the season on sophomore Jason Krispel's
(Cypress, Calif.) goal, rookie forward Marcello Ranallo
(Burnaby, B.C.) moved into a tie for fifth place among freshman scorers for assists recorded in one season. Ranallo, like Sean Erickson
, is tied with Kurt Kamienski this time for fifth place. If he gets a helper this weekend he would move up to fourth where he would be on the same level as Chris Myhro and teammate sophomore Justin Hernandez
(Farmington Hills, Mich.) with 15 assists recorded during a rookie season.
