Feb. 28, 2015

STORRS, Conn. - The UConn men's hockey team will be the #9 seed in their debut in the Hockey East postseason and will face the #8 seed New Hampshire Wildcats next weekend in the opening round.  The Huskies finished their first season in Hockey East with a 7-11-4 mark in league play.

The Huskies finished tied with the University of Maine for ninth place in the final regular season standings, both with 18 points, and earn the #9 seed with the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Black Bears (1-0-1).  UNH finished in eighth place with 21 points and earned the right to host an opening round series.  The Wildcats finished a weekend sweep at home over Merrimack to end the regular season 10-11-1 in HEA play.

UConn was swept by New Hampshire in a home-and-home series last weekend, falling 4-1 at home and 6-1 on the road.  The Huskies have never beaten UNH, going 0-12-0 in the all-time series that dates back to 1961.  The two teams have met just three times since UConn moved to Division I in 1998.

Game one in the best-of-three series is slated for Friday night, March 6th at 7:00 pm.  Game two will be played on Saturday, March 7th at 7:00 pm and game three, if necessary, will be played on Sunday, March 8th at 4:00 pm.  All three games will be held at the Whittemore Center on the UNH campus.

All three games will be broadcast live on WHUS 91.7 FM and will also be video streamed online by the Pack Network and HockeyEastOnline.TV.  Fans will be able to purchase a Men's Tournament All-Access Pass for $59.95 (up to 20 men's games from the first round and quarterfinals) and single game subscriptions will be available for $9.95.

The top four seeds in this year's tournament earned a bye in the opening round and will host quarterfinal series on March 13th-15th.  Boston University, Boston College, Providence and UMass Lowell all finished in the top-four.  The #5 through #8 seeds will host opening round best-of-three series this weekend.
