STORRS, Conn. – Sophomore Tage Thompson (Orange, Conn.) signed an entry-level contract with the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday. Thompson agreed to a three-year entry-level deal with the Blues, who drafted him in the first round (26th overall) at the 2016 NHL Draft.
Thompson, whose contract will begin in the 2017-18 season, will report to the Blues’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Chicago Wolves.
During his two seasons in Storrs, Thompson played in 70 games and put up 64 points on 33 goals and 31 assists. Of his 33 career goals, 20 came on the power play.
This season, Thompson led the Huskies with 19 goals and 32 points, numbers that ranked sixth and 20th among Hockey East scoring leaders. He finished with seven power play goals and had three game-winners. He led the Huskies with six multi-goal games and 10 multi-point games this season. He is a nominee for the Hobey Baker Award and is also a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award.
In International play, Thompson helped lead Team USA to the gold medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship. In the tournament, Thompson played in all seven games and finished with a goal and four assists for five points. His goal proved to be the game-winner in an opening round 5-2 win over Slovakia.
As a rookie, Thompson posted 32 points on 14 goals and 18 assists. He led the country with 13 power play goals and had 19 points on the power play. He finished third in points, second in goals and tied for third in assists in the UConn Division I rookie record book.
