STORRS, Conn. – UConn’s Tage Thompson (Orange, Conn.) was named to the Hockey East Third Team All-Stars as voted on by the league’s 12 head coaches. The league held its annual awards banquet on Thursday night ahead of the 2017 Hockey East Championship this weekend at the TD Garden in Boston.
Thompson, who just signed a three-year entry-level contract with the St. Louis Blues, finished his sophomore season leading the Huskies in scoring. He finished with 19 goals and 32 points, numbers that ranked ninth and 26th among Hockey East scoring leaders. He finished with seven power play goals and had three game-winners.
A nominee for the Hobey Baker Award and a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award, Thompson led the Huskies with six multi-goal games and 10 multi-point games this season.
The past nine months have seen Thompson become UConn’s first-ever first round draft pick in the NHL Draft when St. Louis took him 26th overall this past June followed by becoming UConn’s first-ever member of Team USA when he helped his native country to the gold medal at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship this past December. After signing last week with the Blues, Thompson began his professional career this past weekend with the Chicago Wolves, St. Louis’ AHL affiliate.
Thompson becomes the second Husky to earn All-Hockey East accolades, joining Maxim Letunov (Moscow, Russia) who garnered second team honors last year. He is joined on this year’s third team by forwards Adam Gaudette of Northeastern and Austin Cangelosi of Boston College, defensemen Dennis Gilbert of Notre Dame and Scott Savage of Boston College and goaltender Collin Delia of Merrimack.
