STORRS, Conn. - Former UConn hockey star Cole Schneider has found his way onto the ice with the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League to start his career in professional hockey. Schneider left UConn after his sophomore season and signed a two-way contract with the Ottawa Senators.
"This is a new level for me, but it's just like any other step I've taken over the years. Just like juniors to college. It's a step I wanted to take so I'm working hard," said Schneider.
Schneider has appeared in all three games with Binghamton since joining the professional ranks on Tuesday, March 20. Schneider has yet to register his first career point.
"I've only been here a week, so I'm still getting the hang of things. I'm really trying to get used to everything and prepare for next year. I don't really have a definite role on the team yet," added Schneider.
After two years, Schneider set most major UConn Division I scoring records including; points in a season (45), goals in a season (23), points after two years (78), most hat tricks in career (3), points by a freshman (33) and assists by a freshman (20). Schneider earned a spot on the Atlantic Hockey Association First Team as a sophomore after being tabbed an AHA All-Rookie selection as a freshman.
